When choosing a flooring solution, having the right information is crucial to ensure you select the most suitable option for your space. Both resin and vinyl flooring offer unique benefits and are both popular flooring solutions. The environment within different commercial and industrial sectors will determine which flooring solution will perform the best.
- Durability: Resin flooring is renowned for its strength and longevity. This makes resin flooring particularly suitable for spaces that use heavy machinery or have high footfall levels. Vinyl is prone to dents, scratches, and tears particularly if under the stress of equipment. Vinyl floors have welded joints, and these can often act as a weak spot. Once this joint has failed the floor can lift causing hygiene and safety hazards.
- Cost: Generally speaking, vinyl is often cheaper than a resin flooring solution when considered as a first fit cost basis. It is often recommended to analyse the life cycle cost to ascertain which is likely to give better value over a longer period.
- Maintenance: Resin flooring chemically bonds to the substrate, creating a robust surface that offers exceptional resistance to wear and impact, enhancing the longevity of the floor. If repairs are required to the resin, these can be completed as a localised repair, minimising disruption. Vinyl flooring may require more frequent repairs, especially in high-traffic areas. Once vinyl starts to wear, tear, and come away from the edges replacing larger sections or even the whole floor may be necessary.
- Hygiene: Resin flooring often provides a seamless surface, meaning there are no joints where bacteria can grow and hide. Whilst easy to clean, if the vinyl is not sealed to the substrate, it can trap dirt and bacteria underneath it’s surface. Welded joints within vinyl can also trap dirt that is often harder to remove.
- Slip Resistance: Resin flooring provides exceptional slip resistance. Aggregates can be incorporated into the resin to create a textured surface that enhances grip, making it safer in wet or high-traffic areas. Where safety is a priority, resin is the ideal flooring solution. Vinyl flooring can be manufactured with anti-slip properties, but it does not offer the same level of enhanced benefits as resin when it comes to slip resistance.
