Flat Roofing
Wiltshire Council had 6 balconies within their residential stock in need of replacement coverings as the existing felt roof coverings were beyond their expected lifespan. Many of their internal communal floors have been previously covered with Degafloor’s MMA resin and they approached Degafloor regarding the use of resin on the balcony tops. Degafloor recommended using their Degaflex MMA waterproofing system and referred them to RESYN as accredited installers.
Required properties include:
RESYN completed all preparatory works and installed the OSB3 boards to create a solid substrate to bond to. Degaflex encapsulates fibreglass chop strand within the resin mix to produce a flexible, yet very strong membrane.
The Degaflex system leaves a seamless, waterproof finish that has an excellent Fire Rating to BS 476 Part 3 EXT.F.AB. The system provides exceptional resistance to both chemical and physical attacks, making it an extremely hardwearing, long-term solution for flat roofs.
Each layer of the system cures within 30 minutes and the complete system is fully cured within just 2 hours of installation. The Degaflex system comes in a smooth or slip-resistant finish depending on the client’s requirements. The council requested that the residential balconies were slip-resistant and therefore the system was installed with a granite scatter to ensure this was achieved. As part of the installation, RESYN also replaced all the facias and guttering which were also beyond their expected lifespan.
Wiltshire Council was pleased with the end result and has received positive feedback from their residents.
Alex Forrester, Technical Sales Executive for RESYN Ltd commented, “We are excited to add flat roofing installations to our portfolio and to be able to deliver the same great benefits that the MMA resin flooring solutions provide Wiltshire Council were pleased with the installation and received some great feedback from the residents. There may be future opportunities to install this system elsewhere in their housing stock and we would look to tender for this work.”
