As a part of a refurbishment of the Guild of Students Union Building, Birmingham University was looking for a stylish and durable floor finish with resin patterns that could be installed with minimal disruption.
The University of Birmingham Guild of Students Building, is the main student union for over 27,000 students in the city. As a part of the upgrade to the student services, the building has seen some radical developments. As a part of these new developments, it was decided to completely refurbish the popular nightclub ‘The Underground’. They wanted brand new floors with resin patterns to complement the decor.
The existing floor finish had become well worn and the Guild decided it was time to give the venue a new and stylish revamp. The Guild of Students appointed student union experts, Plumtree Mee, to develop a fresh and innovative new look for the club. As a part of the design theme, the Degafloor QT system was chosen with black and silver resin patterns to complement the club’s stylish and glamorous image.
To minimise the operational impact to the Guild the full refurbishment had to occur during the summer period. The installation, which totalled 361sqm, was completed efficiently within three days. RESYN’s expertise combined with Degafloor’s unique 2-hour cure time meant the installation could be completed with minimal disruption to other trades and allowed the remainder of the refurbishment to continue shortly after.
Rob Matthews of Plumtree Mee comments, “We chose the Degafloor QT System for its resilient technical specification, minimal ongoing maintenance requirement and design flexibility. This type of flooring provides outstanding durability, so I am confident that The Underground will enjoy many years of successful trading before needing the next refurbishment.”
