Education
St Edmund Hall, often known as Teddy Hall in Oxford is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. The college, which is based in the centre of Oxford is one of the oldest surviving academic societies to house and educate undergraduates.
In the 1960’s a new dining hall was built to offer enhanced facilities to the college. The main kitchen, which is used to cater for the university students and external functions had an existing tiled floor that over time had become worn and slippery.
Looking for a more robust solution, the college contacted RESYN for recommendations. Following an initial consultation, it was agreed the Degafloor FB system would offer the ideal solution.
The Degafloor range of resins provides an exceptional bond to tiled substrates, meaning the existing floor could be overcoated without the need for costly tile removal. Most of the floor tiles were securely bonded to the floor and only a small section needed to be removed.
During the preparation phase, RESYN removed any tiles that had debonded along with the tiles situated around drains and manhole covers. To maintain a continuous installation programme the areas were infilled with Degafloor’s Deepfill fast curing repair mortar to build up the levels and to provide a more secure finish around these areas.
A scrape coat, embedded with a promesh reinforced membrane, was applied over the tiles, prior to the application of the Degafloor FB system. The Degafloor FB system is ideally suited to kitchen areas, providing an extremely durable, hygienic and slip resistant system.
To avoid disruption to the college the installation was completed between Christmas and New Year whilst the college was closed.
The property team at the college were delighted with their new floor finish and praised the RESYN team for their efforts from initial consultation through to completion.
