Multi-award-winning company Moo Free Chocolates turned to flooring specialists RESYN for advice. They needed food-grade resin flooring for their new factory. Due to unprecedented expansion, this world’s leading manufacturers of dairy-free, gluten-free, organic and vegan chocolates had to build a second, larger factory to help increase their production capacity and storage facilities.
The company was created in 2010 and has grown rapidly due to increased demand for its chocolates. It now sells to over 35 countries worldwide. The new factory, totalling 260m2, incorporates the main production facility, conche room, engineers’ workshop and NPD room.
Due to manufacturing and cleaning processes, the company wanted a seamless, hard-wearing food-grade resin flooring finish. During production, water cannot be used to clean the floors as the sugar within the chocolate will absorb the moisture. This can cause the chocolate to bloom. As a result, the floors are scraped with metal scrapers, until a full clean-down can be undertaken.
Aware of RESYN’s expertise within the industry, Moo Free Chocolates approached the company for advice on the most suitable food-grade resin flooring system. fter discussing their requirements, we recommended the Pumadur MD system by Resdev. The system is a heavy-duty flow-applied polyurethane floor, topped with a smooth matt finish. The system offers excellent resistance to abrasion, making it ideally suited to complement their operational processes.
The factory also integrates a new warehousing facility and the chocolate manufacturer was looking for a reasonably priced resin system to seal the existing concrete. A high build, solvent-free, two-pack epoxy resin was installed to 363m to provide a protective coating within the area.
