Installation requirements for hospital flooring

The post-mortem room at Luton and Dunstable Hospital needed refurbishment with new hospital flooring. The existing vinyl was worn due to insufficient falls in the substrate. As a result, water was pooling presenting a slip hazard. The hospital was looking for a hardwearing hospital flooring solution. It needed to be hygienic and slip-resistant under wet conditions. The project also had tight timescales.

Why RESYN?

Following a consultation, it was agreed that the existing hospital flooring finish had to be removed so we could create falls to the drains. The falls were formed using Degafloor 50/51. This is a quick-curing screed. Another option discussed was the installation of a polymer screed; however, this would have required 3 days to cure before allowing the remainder of the installation to continue.

The Degafloor FB system is seamless and impervious, providing an extremely hygienic solution that leaves nowhere for bacteria to breed. The installation was complemented with a seamless coved skirting at 200mm installed to the white rock walling, helping to maintain a more sterile environment. The system offers outstanding slip resistance and exceptional durability. It can withstand frequent cleaning regimes.

RESYN worked closely with the hospital and the builders working on the refurbishment to complete the installation with minimal disruption. The whole installation took just 2 days.

Louise McDonald from Luton and Dunstable Hospital commented:

“RESYN gave us the best solution & advice to resolve our problems. The Post Mortem Room was closed for four weeks for refurbishments & staff from RESYN had to fit into our tight schedule. The project was fully completed within our agreed dates & all issues relating to the existing floor were removed by our external governance bodies. The staff are very pleased with the resulting improvements to safety, the floor’s appearance & ease with which it can be cleaned.”
